Antiques Quilts and Toppers
Lot 465:
Description
25 x 33 blue, pink is a pillowcase. This lot consists of two vintage American hand-stitched cotton textile items, likely dating from the mid-20th century. The first item is a patchwork quilt top or lightweight quilt featuring a classic pinwheel pattern constructed from alternating triangles of solid light blue and off-white cotton fabric. The piece is hand-pieced and hand-stitched with visible running stitches throughout. The edges are unfinished and show fraying. The second item is a standard white cotton pillowcase featuring a central hand-applied patchwork medallion. The medallion is configured in a diamond shape with a central green floral square, surrounded by four pink floral-patterned lozenges and four green floral-patterned corner squares. A coordinating band of the green floral fabric is sewn along the hem of the open end. The patchwork elements are hand-applied to a commercially made base. The printed fabrics are characteristic of American domestic needlework from the 1930s to 1950s.
