Antiques Quilts and Toppers
Lot 454:
Description
88 x 90 A hand-appliqued quilt top or lightweight coverlet featuring five stylized floral motifs in the Wind-Blown Tulips pattern on a white cotton ground. The motifs consist of alternating pink and green petals radiating from a central yellow disc, each secured with a decorative white blanket stitch. The background is constructed from rectangular panels joined with a yellow and white decorative faggoting or herringbone stitch. The entire piece is finished with a pink fabric binding along the edges. The design and construction are characteristic of American needlework from the 1930s and 1940s, frequently associated with the patterns of Marie Webster.
