Antiques Quilts and Toppers
Lot 415:
Description
58 x 74This vintage textile is an unfinished, hand-pieced patchwork quilt top, likely dating from the mid-20th century. The piece features a variation of the Bear’s Paw pattern, also known as a Maple Leaf variant, executed in a scrappy style. The blocks are constructed from various cotton and cotton-blend fabrics, including red and white gingham, several plaid patterns in blue, yellow, and brown, and various floral prints. A distinctive geometric diamond-print sashing in shades of red, orange, and green separates the blocks, alongside solid brown sashing strips. The entire piece is assembled using hand-stitched white running stitches. The edges are raw and unfinished, as the piece was never layered with batting or backing. No labels, marks, or signatures are visible on the item.
