Description
70 x 72 A large hand-pieced patchwork quilt featuring a central diamond medallion design. The quilt face is constructed from a variety of small fabric scraps in diverse patterns including plaids, checks, ginghams, florals, and solid colors. These pieces are organized into a central diamond-oriented square, further framed by concentric borders of red fabric with woven black horizontal stripes. This same striped fabric is used for the outermost border of the piece. The quilt is backed with a solid olive-green cotton fabric. Unlike traditional quilted stitching, this example utilizes a tied construction method, where small red and white thread ties are placed at regular intervals to secure the layers together. The edges are finished with a simple fold-over binding.
