Antiques Quilts and Toppers
Lot 39:
Description
66 x 80 This vintage textile is a hand-stitched cotton quilt, likely dating from the mid-20th century. The quilt features twenty individual blocks arranged in a four-by-five grid. Each block contains a stylized, four-armed motif in solid purple cotton fabric hand-applied to a white cotton ground using fine appliqu? stitching. This pattern is a variation of traditional designs known as The Reel or Whirligig. The entire piece is extensively hand-quilted; the white background fields are decorated with a repeating concentric arc or clamshell pattern, while the purple motifs are finished with outline quilting. The quilt is edged with a narrow, hand-applied solid purple cotton binding. The reverse side is a plain white cotton fabric.
