Description
58 x 60 A mid-to-late 20th century unfinished quilt top constructed in a postage stamp or scrap patchwork style. The piece is composed of numerous small fabric squares, approximately 2 inches in size, machine-pieced together. The construction utilizes a diverse array of materials characteristic of the 1960s and 1970s, including cotton prints, polyester double-knit fabrics, corduroy, and striped synthetics. The layout features various color-coordinated checkerboard sections, notably in pink, gray, and white, interspersed with randomized scrap blocks. A notable feature is the inclusion of upcycled material; one white square in the lower section retains partial blue printed characters from a recycled sack, reading ULA on the first line, DE on the second, and a partial F on the third, likely originating from a flour or grain sack (e.g., Harina de…). The quilt top has an irregular, unfinished form with a large L-shaped extension at the bottom left.
