Description
72 x 72 A vintage American hand-pieced and tied utility quilt featuring sixteen patterned blocks in a variant of the Variable Star or Ohio Star design. The quilt top is constructed from a variety of scrap materials including wool, wool-blends, flannels, and silk or early synthetic satin in a palette of navy, maroon, ochre, and brown. These patterned blocks are set into a large field of blue woven wool or wool-blend fabric. The quilt is secured with white yarn tufts positioned at the corners of the patterned blocks and across the field. The outer edge is finished with a pink machine-sewn zigzag stitch. The reverse is composed of blue and white striped cotton ticking.
