Description
68 x 70 This mid-20th-century hand-pieced patchwork quilt features a double-sided construction with distinct designs on each face. The primary side displays a series of pinwheel blocks separated by vertical sashing in various striped and floral patterns. The reverse side consists of a scrap or string patchwork design using irregular triangular and rectangular fragments. The materials comprise a wide array of printed cottons, including calicoes, stripes, and seersucker textures. A notable feature is the use of recycled feed sack fragments; on the reverse side, one fabric piece displays large printed characters where the letters P, A, and N are visible above partial characters that appear to be A, N, and I. The quilt is hand-pieced with visible interior batting.
