Description
60 x 78 This is a vintage hand-crocheted throw blanket, or afghan, constructed from individual square motifs joined together. Each square features a central, three-dimensional raised floral design in a pink color, resembling a rose or peony. These floral centers are accented by four pale mint green leaf motifs at the corners of each square’s center. The background of the squares and the main body of the blanket are worked in an off-white or cream-colored yarn using double crochet stitches. The blanket is finished on two opposite ends with long, hand-tied fringe in matching cream yarn. Based on visual inspection of the texture and sheen, the material is likely a synthetic acrylic or acrylic blend yarn, common in mid-to-late 20th-century American folk crafts. The design is in the style of classic raised rose granny square patterns.
