Description
36 x 46 A vintage quilt top featuring the Dresden Plate pattern, dating from approximately the 1930s to 1940s. The piece is constructed with hand-pieced and hand-appliqued circular motifs. Each motif is composed of approximately twenty wedge-shaped petals made from diverse scrap cotton fabrics, including florals, polka dots, checks, stripes, and geometric prints common to the Depression era. These floral-like plates are appliqued onto a white ground fabric with a solid blue circular center. The blocks are bordered by a blue lattice sashing of vertical and horizontal fabric strips. Visible running stitches throughout indicate hand construction. The item remains an unfinished quilt top with roughly basted, unhemmed edges.
