Antiques Quilts and Toppers
Lot 350:
Description
60 x 72 This textile is an unfinished vintage quilt top featuring hand-appliqu?d blocks in a folk-art variation of the Dresden Plate or stylized sunflower pattern. The piece is constructed from square blocks of cream-colored, coarsely woven cotton fabric hand-sewn together. Each block contains a ten-petal flower with a solid yellow circular center. The petals are made from a variety of scrap fabrics including plaids, ginghams, stripes, polka dots, and floral prints, characteristic of mid-20th-century American quilting traditions. The appliqu?s are attached to the ground fabric using visible hand whipstitching. The reverse side shows raw stitching and loose thread ends, indicating the item is an unfinished top intended for eventual quilting with batting and a backing.
