Description
74 x 86 A hand-pieced cotton quilt top featuring the traditional Grandmother’s Flower Garden pattern. The textile consists of numerous hexagonal patches hand-sewn together to form multi-colored floral rosettes with yellow centers, set within a field of off-white hexagonal background patches. This is an unfinished textile intended as the decorative upper layer of a quilt and does not include batting, backing, or binding. The piece incorporates a diverse assortment of 20th-century cotton fabrics, including novelty prints featuring watermelons and strawberries, small-scale calico florals, larger 1940s-1950s style floral patterns, gingham checks, stripes, and solid colors. The reverse side shows individual seam allowances and hand-stitching consistent with hand-running stitch construction or English Paper Piecing. The edges are irregular and unfinished.
