Description
74 x 82 An antique hand-pieced cotton quilt top featuring a pattern of alternating Nine-Patch blocks and large squares of striped floral calico. The Nine-Patch blocks utilize a variety of scrappy period cotton prints, including indigo blue calicos with polka dots and floral motifs, turkey red, ochre yellow, chocolate brown, and checkered shirting fabrics. The piece is entirely hand-stitched, with visible seam allowances and hand-sewn junctions on the reverse side. It is an unfinished quilt top, lacking batting, backing, or a finished edge. The fabric selection and construction techniques are consistent with American domestic textile production from the late 19th to early 20th century.
