Antiques Quilts and Toppers
Lot 30:
Description
78 x 80 This is an American hand-pieced and hand-quilted cotton quilt featuring the Dresden Plate pattern, dating from approximately the mid-20th century. The quilt top is composed of twenty square blocks arranged in a four-by-five grid. Each block features an appliqued Dresden Plate motif consisting of radiating wedge-shaped petals in a variety of solid colors including yellow, blue, pink, and red, surrounding a central circular hub. One block in the second row contains a distinct white floral-style applique instead of the multi-colored plate. The blocks are set with dark red sashing and blue cornerstones, and the quilt is finished with a pink and blue border. The reverse side is constructed from a white cotton fabric with a small-scale, multi-directional floral sprig print in pink, red, blue, and green. The entire piece is hand-quilted in a simple grid pattern that follows the sashing and cuts across the appliqued blocks.
