Antiques Quilts and Toppers
Lot 279:
Description
68 x 84 An unfinished, hand-pieced patchwork quilt top featuring a wide variety of 20th-century cotton and cotton-blend scrap fabrics. The construction consists of large Nine-Patch blocks set on point in a diagonal grid. The arrangement of the blocks and fabric colors creates a visual effect similar to a Trip Around the World pattern. The fabric assortment includes an eclectic mix of prints, including polka dots, stripes, plaids, and various floral calicos in a color palette dominated by blues, reds, pinks, and greens. The central field is framed by a wide border of black and white fabric featuring a scrolling vine or foliate pattern. The entire top is hand-stitched, as evidenced by the irregular running stitches and raw, un-felled seam allowances visible on the reverse side.
