Antiques Quilts and Toppers
Lot 269:
Description
80 x 84 A handmade utility quilt constructed in a string-pieced crazy quilt pattern, dating to the mid-to-late 20th century. The design features alternating solid navy blue blocks and multi-colored scrappy blocks. The scrappy sections are composed of fabric strips in various patterns, including plaids, stripes, and several floral prints. One notable block contains a large-scale print of blue and white sunflowers on a pink lattice ground, characteristic of 1970s textile design. The quilt is finished with a wide, ruffled border in red fabric with a small white floral calico print. Materials consist of various cotton and synthetic blend scrap fabrics. The piece displays a rustic construction with visible white basting stitches and a mix of hand and machine assembly.
