Description

80 x 88 An antique American hand-pieced and tied reversible scrap quilt dating to the late 19th or early 20th century. The quilt is constructed from a variety of printed cotton fabrics, including indigo-dyed calicos, light-colored shirtings with small-scale floral and geometric motifs, and various red and purple prints. The interior batting is cotton. One side features a structured Courthouse Steps Log Cabin pattern layout with red central squares surrounded by alternating light and dark printed logs. The reverse side features an eclectic medallion-style composition with a central checkerboard of blue-and-white polka dot squares and light floral prints, bordered by decorative bands of Flying Geese triangles, checkerboard patterns, and small Log Cabin blocks. The three layers are secured by hand-tied yarn knots rather than decorative quilting stitches.
