Antiques Quilts and Toppers
Lot 254:
Description
84 x 92 This is an unfinished quilt top featuring a central Tree of Life or Apple Tree folk art motif, likely dating from the late 20th century. The piece centers on a large cream-colored panel depicting a stylized tree with a dark green trunk and branches. The tree is decorated with multiple hand-appliqued fruits in various patterns, including solid red, green calico, and multi-colored floral prints. The fruit motifs and leaves are attached with visible hand-stitching, and the stems are embroidered in a green running stitch. The central panel is framed by a patchwork border of light green, red, and cream fabric squares joined with dark green sashing. Several of the light green squares feature individual hand-appliqued apple motifs matching those on the central tree. The fabrics appear to be a mix of cotton and polyester-cotton blends. The reverse side shows visible hand-stitching for the applique motifs, while the sashing and block construction are machine-pieced.
