Description

74 x 80 An American hand-pieced and hand-quilted Log Cabin pattern scrap quilt dating from the late 19th to early 20th century. The quilt features a five-by-five grid of twenty-five individual blocks. Each block is constructed of concentric fabric strips radiating from a central square. The blocks are separated by black sashing strips punctuated by pink cornerstone squares at each intersection. The piece is hand-quilted throughout with diagonal cross-hatching using dark thread and finished with a hand-turned binding. The materials consist of a variety of domestic textiles including printed cotton calicos, striped cottons, solid and twill-weave woolens, and figured fabrics. The reverse side features a pieced backing of several large-scale floral printed cotton fabrics.
