Description
64 x 80 This is an unfinished quilt top featuring the traditional Grandmother?s Flower Garden pattern. The piece is composed of numerous hexagonal cotton and cotton-blend fabric patches. The design is organized into distinct floral motifs, each featuring a solid brown hexagonal center, a primary ring of varied floral print petals, and a secondary outer ring of solid purple hexagons. The floral prints include small-scale calicos and a pink grid pattern with multi-colored blossoms. These floral units are set into a continuous background path of solid green hexagons. Visual inspection of the reverse side confirms hand-pieced construction, showing visible hand-stitching and raw seam allowances. Based on the fabric patterns and construction style, this item is consistent with American textile production from the mid-20th century, approximately the 1930s through the 1950s.
