Antiques Quilts and Toppers
Lot 158A:
Description
61 x 82 An unfinished mid-20th century pieced quilt top featuring a repeating eight-pointed star pattern, a variation of the LeMoyne Star. The stars are hand-pieced from an assortment of multicolored printed cotton fabrics including calico florals, polka dots, ginghams, and stripes. Each star block is set against a solid bright yellow background, and the blocks are joined by a light blue sashing with a pink and yellow floral motif. The piece is constructed using the English Paper Piecing (EPP) technique. The reverse side shows several diamond-shaped segments that still contain their original paper templates. These templates are composed of recycled printed matter, with visible text fragments including NY, pieces, home, Ford, G, and tern. This item consists of the top layer only and does not include batting or backing.
