Antiques Quilts and Toppers
Lot 12:
Description
70 x 80 A vintage American hand-pieced and hand-quilted patchwork scrap quilt, constructed in a variation of the Broken Dishes or Pinwheel pattern. The quilt top is composed of multiple half-square triangle blocks using a diverse range of scrap cotton fabrics, including floral calicos, solids, checks, and stripes, many characteristic of mid-20th-century feed sack prints. These blocks are organized into five horizontal rows separated by wide sashing of light blue cotton fabric with a small stylized navy and white floral medallion print. The piece is finished with hand-quilting in a simple grid pattern across the sashing and patchwork. The reverse features a light blue cotton backing with a repeating circular floral design in white and dark blue, constructed from two panels with a visible horizontal seam. The batting is a thin, lightweight layer.
