Description
This molded figural sculpture depicts a Native American rider wearing a full feathered war bonnet atop a rearing horse. The rider is shown in a dynamic struggle, thrusting a spear into the open mouth of a mountain lion that is lunging from a rocky outcrop. The piece is crafted from a molded material, likely plaster or chalkware, and features a polychrome painted finish with a metallic bronzed patina. The base is molded to resemble rocky terrain and tall grass, finished in matte black. The reverse bears incised marks including a copyright symbol, the date 1935, and the initials R.L.
