Lot 133:
Description
This wooden transport crate is consistent with the U.S. military M1917 pattern, utilized for machine gun ammunition transport and storage throughout the mid-20th century. The box is constructed from heavy-duty lumber with a standard olive drab exterior finish and a natural wood interior. It features reinforced corners with metal strapping secured by rivets. The hinged lid is equipped with two wooden stacking cleats on the top surface. A heavy-duty metal tension latch is mounted to the front for secure closure. One side retains a thick, natural-fiber rope handle threaded through wooden blocks, while the opposite side shows only the metal mounting plate where the second handle was originally attached. No original military stencils, manufacturer codes, or National Stock Numbers are visible. A modern yellow inventory sticker marked 133 is present on the front latch.
