Description
This antique liquid fuel dispenser was manufactured by the J.A. Harps Manufacturing Company of Greenfield, Ohio. Identified as The Never-Fail model, the piece consists of a cylindrical body constructed of galvanized steel. The top surface is fitted with a central plunger pump mechanism and a swivel-style curved discharge spout. A wire bail handle with a turned wooden grip is attached to the side ears. The front of the container retains its original multi-colored lithographed paper label. Transcribed text on the label includes 5 GALLONS, THE NEVER-FAIL, FOR KEROSENE, and J.A. HARPS MFG. CO. GREENFIELD, OHIO, U.S.A. The label also lists a patent date of May 9, 1893, alongside operational directions and a manufacturer guarantee. Two circular insignias read TESTED AND GUARANTEED.
