Description
A set of volumes of the biographical work Great Men and Famous Women: A Series of Pen and Pencil Sketches of the Lives of More Than 200 of the Most Prominent Personages in History, edited by Charles F. Horne. This collection was published in New York by Selmar Hess and bears a copyright date of 1894. The quarto-sized volumes are bound in brown half-leather with textured boards. The front covers feature gilt-stamped titles and decorative floral ornaments. The spines are designed with five raised bands and ornate gold gilt-stamped motifs, including thistles and scrollwork. The work is organized into thematic sections: Soldiers and Sailors, Statesmen and Sages, Workmen and Heroes, and Artists and Authors. The title pages are printed with a decorative border and include a centered illustration of classical figures.
