Lot 330:
Description
Attributed to Collins based on visual characteristics and market consensus, this pick-head fire axe features a forged steel head with a broad cutting blade and a reverse pick. The head displays a dark patina with extensive surface oxidation and pitting consistent with age and professional use. The axe is mounted on a contoured wooden handle that retains significant portions of its original red paint finish. The paint is heavily chipped and worn throughout, particularly on the lower half and near the head. A series of small circular bore holes are visible in the wood just below the axe head. A white paper auction tag is tied to the handle with the handwritten number 785.
