Description
This lot features a large yellowware advertising bowl and seven pieces of miniature stoneware and ceramics. The bowl is constructed of yellowware with a clear glaze and a heavy, out-turned rim. It is decorated with a black transfer-printed scene depicting a merchant in a 19th-century grocery store. Centered below the illustration is a text block that reads: SOLON CADDY’S FINE GROCERIES, WINES, &c. &c. The miniature collection includes a two-tone stoneware jug with a brown and cream glaze, featuring a wire handle with a wooden grip and a cork stopper, printed with the text CAMBRIDGE SPRINGS. Also included is a cream-colored ceramic vase of tapered form with a molded and painted black leaf motif, a salt-glazed stoneware crock with a hand-applied cobalt blue horizontal band, and four additional miniature grey-white salt-glazed stoneware crocks or cups.
