Lot 537:
Description
This mid-20th century countertop advertising display promotes Pabst Blue Ribbon beer with a nostalgic Victorian-era boxing theme. The display features a central figure of a bare-knuckle pugilist in a fighting stance, wearing a cream tank top and blue and white striped trousers with a red sash. The figure and the rectangular base are constructed from painted chalkware or a similar plaster composition. The base is designed to resemble a boxing ring, featuring metal upright posts that originally held ropes. A dark brown glass bottle with original paper labels is mounted to the left of the figure. A separate, detached lithographed tin sign is included. The front of the base is inscribed with Pabst Blue Ribbon in stylized blue script, while the side is marked ORIGINAL in red block letters with decorative flourishes. The paper bottle labels feature the brand signature blue ribbon logo and the text Pabst Blue Ribbon…Selected as America Best in 1893. The detached metal sign reads at POPULAR PRICES in black serif font on a yellow background with a scalloped dark border.
