Lot 495:
Description
This lot consists of two antique wooden hand planes, characteristic of 19th-century woodworking tools. The first is a large jointer plane featuring a long, rectangular body with a sculpted wooden tote handle at the rear. It is equipped with a metal iron and a wooden wedge. A circular wooden plug or fastener is visible on the side of the body near the toe. The second item is a smaller smoothing plane, commonly referred to as a coffin plane due to its double-ended tapered shape. This plane also includes its metal iron and wooden wedge. Both planes are constructed from solid wood, likely beech, and show a deep, aged patina. No maker’s marks or patent dates are visible on the tools.
