Description
A tall document or file chest dating from the late 19th to early 20th century, approximately 1890 to 1910. The cabinet is constructed of quarter-sawn white oak, also referred to as tiger oak, which displays prominent medullary ray flakes on the drawer fronts and paneled sides. The unit contains eight drawers of uniform size. Each drawer is constructed with machine-cut dovetail joinery and utilizes a lighter secondary wood, such as pine or poplar, for the interior. The hardware on each drawer includes a central applied, carved wooden bin-style pull, a brass-plated metal card or label holder to the right, and a central keyhole. The cabinet is finished with a molded overhanging top and sits on a solid base. No manufacturer labels or marks are visible.
