Description
This contemporary Western sculpture, titled Encounter at Teton River, was created by artist Jim Ponter. The composition depicts a dynamic bison hunt featuring three Native American hunters on horseback. The scene is full of movement, showing the hunters in pursuit, with the action culminating on the right side where the bison is shown goring a falling horse and its rider. The work is rendered with a dark, multi-toned bronze patina over a highly textured surface, characteristic of cold-cast resin or a similar composite casting. The sculpture is mounted on a separate, stepped, oval-shaped dark wooden plinth. A brass identification plaque is fixed to the front of the base, bearing the literal transcription ENCOUNTER AT TETON RIVER on the first line and By Jim Ponter on the second line.
