Description
This lot consists of two vintage lithographed tin one-gallon containers from the Mobil brand, dating from the mid-20th century. The first container is a rectangular Mobil Upperlube can produced by the Socony-Vacuum Oil Company, Inc. It features a top metal handle and an original screw cap. The front displays the red Pegasus logo inside a shield with the slogan The Sign The Nation Knows and the text Makes Engines Run Smoother. The bottom red band is marked Socony-Vacuum. The reverse side contains detailed directions for lubricating upper cylinder walls, piston rings, and valve stems. Side panels are marked Socony-Vacuum Oil Company Incorporated, Made in U.S.A., New York. The second item is a cylindrical Mobil Permazone Anti-Freeze can. The lithographed exterior features a large red Pegasus logo on a white and blue ground. Text identifies it as an Ethylene Glycol Base Anti-Freeze that Will Not Boil Away. The reverse includes comprehensive usage directions, a warning label, and volume measurements. The top lid is incised with the code 150 over D1T. Capacity: One U.S. Gallon each.
