Description
This vintage rectangular lithographed tin oil can was produced by the Socony-Vacuum Oil Company for their Mobilube brand. The can features the iconic red Pegasus graphic on the front above the brand name Mobilube and the subtext (FOR GEARS) in dark blue. The body is decorated with a classic three-band design consisting of a thin blue stripe at the top, a large white mid-section, and a solid red bottom band. The top surface of the can is embossed with the text GX90, OUTBOARD, GEAR OIL, and SAE 90. One side of the can bears the manufacturer’s mark S/V Design B-67360. The reverse side includes text indicating the contents weigh TWO POUNDS or 0.907 KILO, along with corporate trademark information for New York and the origin of manufacture, Made in U.S.A. The can is fitted with a period-correct metal dispensing spout that includes a screw-on cap attached by a metal swivel arm.
