Description
This antique indoor telephone booth was manufactured by the C.B. French Cabinet Co. Inc. of Brooklyn, New York, during the early 20th century. The single-piece upright cabinet is constructed of solid wood with an oak grain and a warm medium-brown finish. It features a bi-fold door that operates on a metal top-pivot track system. Both the door and the left-side panel are fitted with multiple clear glass panes in the upper sections. The interior is lined with textured, embossed panels in a dark brown color, featuring a repeating floral and geometric pattern. Interior fittings include a built-in wooden writing desk and a secondary corner shelf or seat. The booth is equipped with an original Kellogg Switchboard & Supply Co. magneto wall telephone with dual brass bells and a black transmitter arm. A decorative sign mounted on the interior wall reads TELEPHONE 5 MINUTE TIME LIMIT. A porcelain pull-chain light fixture is installed in the ceiling. The cabinet retains a metal manufacturer’s plate on the interior door frame reading MANUFACTURED BY C. B. FRENCH CABINET CO. INC. BROOKLYN, N.Y. PATENT PENDING.
