Description
This antique butchery tool is a meat splitter designed for heavy-duty carcass splitting. The implement features a large, rectangular carbon steel blade with a curved upper profile and a circular hanging hole at the distal end. The blade is secured into the handle using a socket-and-ferrule construction. The handle is made of turned hardwood, possibly oak or ash, and features deep, horizontal scoring along the grip area to ensure a secure two-handed hold during use. A single character, the numeral 3, is stamped into the face of the blade, which likely indicates a weight or size classification. Faint, impressed characters are present on the wood near the butt of the handle, though they are too worn to be clearly identified.
