June Antiques and Collectibles Consignment
Lot 588:
Description
This collection consists of multiple hand-cut paper doll figures and associated clothing items characteristic of the Dolly Dingle series illustrated by Grace G. Drayton. The figures feature the artist’s signature style of wide-eyed, chubby-cheeked children. Key pieces include a young boy figure in a white collared shirt with a red string tie and a yellow and orange striped sash over dark trousers, and a young girl figure in a white drop-waist dress with lace trim and black Mary Jane shoes. The assortment also contains a toddler-style figure in a white chemise, a woman’s head with blonde hair, and a woman’s torso in a yellow dress with blue accents. Supplemental accessories and garments include a large paper fan, a pink tiered dress with floral motifs, and various dress fragments. Several items show fragments of printed newsprint text on the reverse, suggesting they were originally published as supplements in early 20th-century periodicals such as Pictorial Review or The Ladies’ Home Journal.
