Description
This lot featurespostcards and paper ephemera, primarily dating from the early 20th century, circa 1900 to the 1920s. The collection includes a variety of themes such as comic and novelty cards, topographical views, maritime advertising, and artistic greeting cards. Notable pieces include a 1906 Skidoo 23 novelty card by the Illustrated Post Card and Novelty Company, a Red Star Line card depicting the S.S. Vaderland and S.S. Zeeland, and a Rotograph Company card titled Phew! How it Hurts! which was printed in Germany. Other identifiable items include a promotional card for the Merchant Hotel in Elmira, New York, and topographical postcards of Delaware Park in Buffalo, New York, and the Indian Burial Ground in St. Augustine, Florida. The collection contains both undivided and divided back cards, as well as embossed greeting cards featuring molded medallions. Several cards include contemporary handwritten notations in fountain pen. Dimensions: Individual postcards measure approximately 3.5 inches by 5.5 inches.
