Description
This collection consists of WWII-era United States military personal gear, domestic ration materials, and a European theater souvenir. Field equipment includes an olive drab M1936-style canvas pistol belt with blackened metal hardware and metal eyelets. The lot features olive drab canvas web trouser belts with brass open-face sliding buckles and a brown leather trouser belt with a brass buckle. A brass military whistle is included, stamped MILITARY on the side. Also present is a Belgian Fourrag?re, a braided red and green cord with brass tips, often awarded to US units for service in Belgium. The collection contains an empty cardboard outer carton for a U. S. Army Field Ration K Dinner Unit. The box features printed instructions for the reuse of the inner bag and security warnings advising soldiers to conceal refuse from aerial observation. Home front ephemera includes a War Ration Book Four issued by the Office of Price Administration, named in ink to Frances Wilson of Birmingham, Alabama, and signed by the same. Two ration book holders are present: one brown leatherette folder with a silver-tone US Great Seal and the text Ration Books; one brown leather folder stamped RATION BOOK HOLDER, No. 550, Made in U. S. A. A German souvenir photo booklet titled Der romantische Rhein (The Romantic Rhine) is included. The cover specifies 20 neue Aufnahmen von Koblenz bis Rudesheim (20 new views from Koblenz to Rudesheim) and identifies the publisher as Verlag Photo Kratz, Koln. The interior contains black and white topographical and aerial photographs of towns such as Boppard and Bornhofen.
