Description
A portable military communication device identified as a U.S. Army Signal Corps EE-8-B field telephone. This World War II-era set is housed in its original heavy brown leather case with stitched edges and brass hardware. The front of the case is marked with a white stenciled identifier C-182-1. Faintly embossed lettering on the leather casing reads TELEPHONE EE-8-B and SIGNAL CORPS U.S. ARMY. The interior contains a terminal block with binding posts labeled T & C, BAT +, G, REC, L1, and L2. A black plate provides instruction to REMOVE BATTERIES WHEN NOT IN USE. The handset is constructed of black Bakelite with a push-to-talk button and a coiled handset cord. The receiver and transmitter caps are secured with yellowish metal bands. The battery compartment features two conical metal springs designed to hold D-cell batteries.
