Description

18×24 This oversized folio volume contains a substantial collection of daily newspaper pages extracted from the Cleveland Plain Dealer, primarily spanning the years 1934 and 1935. The assembly focuses on two main areas: daily syndicated comic strips and news Wirephotos. Prominent comic strips represented include Thimble Theater by E. C. Segar (featuring Popeye), Little Orphan Annie by Harold Gray, Joe Palooka by Ham Fisher, Mutt and Jeff by Bud Fisher, Toonerville Folks by Fontaine Fox, and the detective strip Secret Agent X-9 by Dashiell Hammett and Alex Raymond. The Wirephoto sections document significant contemporary events, such as the 1935 mayoral campaign of Harold H. Burton in Cleveland, aviation news featuring Amelia Earhart and Wiley Post, and various international military and industrial subjects. The volume is bound in a large folio format with half-cloth boards and reinforced corners.
