Description
A framed Burmese Kalaga tapestry, a traditional textile art form of Myanmar. The central composition features two winged Kinnara or Kinnari celestial beings in dynamic flight. The figures are rendered in high-relief appliqu? using the shwe chi doe technique on a black velvet ground. Embellishment consists of metallic gold-tone threads, silver-tone and gold-tone sequins, glass beads, and faux pearls. The scene includes stylized clouds and a sun at the upper left, mountains at the sides, and lotus flowers rising from water at the base.
