Description
A collection of late 19th-century autograph albums featuring a variety of decorative covers and period interior entries. The group includes a black embossed leatherette album featuring a landscape castle scene and the word AUTOGRAPHS in a gold-toned fan motif; a maroon textured leather album with a central recessed velvet panel and silver-toned floral overlays; a blue plush velvet album with an applied silhouette of a seated cat; and a tan leather album embellished with gilded horse motifs and a purple and gold lattice border. The interior pages contain handwritten sentimental verses, signatures, and chromolithograph scraps. Notable inscriptions include a message from Lucy A. Lynn of Canfield, Ohio, dated April 16, 1886; a verse signed by Maud Frazer dated March 12, 1889; a dedication signed by Elmina J. Morton; and a greeting to Miss Morton from D. P. Gibson of West Liberty and Pleasant Valley, West Virginia, dated June 20, 1892. One album contains a color title page featuring a yellow rose bouquet above the word Autographs in script.
