Description
A collection of early 20th-century U.S. military-style field gear and undergarments. The primary garment is a heavy olive drab wool four-pocket tunic featuring a stand-up collar and metal buttons embossed with the Great Seal eagle crest. A metal collar disk is present, bearing the numerals 40, the letter G, and crossed rifles, signifying Company G of the 40th Infantry Regiment. The tunic sleeve displays a single red chevron rank insignia. The interior tan cotton lining bears handwritten characters E.C.B near the collar. Accompanying the tunic are olive drab wool breeches with reinforced inner thighs and lace-up calves. A white cloth label sewn into the waistband reads U. S. A. BREECHES in capital letters. The lot also includes an olive drab pullover field shirt with a half-button placket and two buttoned chest pockets. Additional accessories consist of a tan garrison cap with blue piping, a light-colored webbing belt with a metal sliding buckle, and multiple pairs of canvas leggings. Also included are two cream-colored ribbed knit henley undershirts. One shirt features a woven green and white label reading CORWITH MILLS and a rectangular paper retail tag from M.J. McFADDEN CO. WHEELING, W. VA. for LOT 177 at a price of $1.15.
