Description
14×18 This lot features a pair of color lithographic prints after the religious illustrations of Sister Maria Innocentia Hummel, titled Her Guardian Angel and His Guardian Angel. The first print, Her Guardian Angel, depicts a young girl in an orange tunic and green cloak holding a walking staff, guided by a winged angel as they walk near a snake. The second print, His Guardian Angel, shows a young boy in blue overalls carrying a fishing pole while crossing a wooden plank bridge, with an angel watching over him. Both prints are plate-signed with the signature M.J. Hummel in the lower right corner of the image area. The titles are printed in a cursive script centered in the lower margin of each sheet. The prints are presented in non-matching frames; one is natural wood and the other is white-painted wood with a blue beaded inner border. The reverse of the natural wood frame retains a handwritten gift inscription in ink on the backing paper that reads: To Anne from Aunt Anne and Aunt Helen and [unclear] March 18, 1945 – Happy Birthday!!.
