Description
9×9 A large cobalt blue cut to clear cased crystal pedestal bowl or centerpiece. This piece features a rich layer of cobalt blue glass over a clear lead crystal core that has been hand-cut to create a high-contrast geometric design. The primary decorative band consists of multi-pointed hobstar motifs centered with clear circular buttons, separated by deep X-shaped criss-cross cuts. Below this band is a row of broad, vertical thumbprint or lunar cuts transitioning into the base of the bowl. The upper rim is finished with a notched and scalloped edge. The bowl is supported by a faceted, waisted stem that rests on a heavy, tiered square pedestal base. The underside of the base features a large, deeply cut multi-point star pattern. An incised script signature reading Faberge is visible on the flat underside of the base. The weight and light refraction indicate a high lead-oxide content.
