Antiques Quilts and Toppers
Lot 416:
Description
36 x 56 This vintage handmade patchwork textile is constructed in a diagonal string-pieced style. The piece is composed of an eclectic variety of scrap fabrics, primarily synthetic double-knits in various colors and textures, alongside small-scale floral cotton prints. The construction features individual blocks pieced onto a white foundation fabric, with the raw edges of the fabric strips left exposed on the reverse side. It is a single-layer construction, lacking internal batting or a secondary backing layer. A wide, solid blue border made of a heavy-weight synthetic fabric finishes the perimeter with top-stitching. The arrangement of the colorful strips creates a vibrant, multi-directional geometric pattern characteristic of mid-to-late 20th-century domestic folk-art quilting traditions in the United States.
