Description
74 x 82 This vintage American quilt top features a series of appliqu?d figures in the Southern Belle or Colonial Lady pattern, a popular mid-20th-century needlework motif. The piece consists of white cotton or cotton-blend blocks, each containing a figure of a woman in an elaborate tiered gown and wide-brimmed sun hat. The dresses and hats are constructed from various patterned fabric remnants, including florals, calicos, and geometric prints. Each figure holds a small bouquet of embroidered flowers. The blocks are joined by wide pink sashing strips with contrasting blue cornerstone squares. The appliqu? work is secured with a decorative, hand-guided machine zigzag or satin stitch. The reverse side reveals the underside of the machine stitching and confirms the piece is a single-layer quilt top without batting or a backing fabric.
