Description

76 x 90 This is a hand-pieced and hand-quilted American scrap quilt dating from the mid-20th century. The textile is constructed in a strippy sampler layout with three main vertical columns separated by sashing made of a multi-colored striped fabric featuring green, white, blue, and orange tones. The right column features a clamshell pattern composed of various scrap fabrics including florals, polka dots, and geometric prints. The left and center columns primarily consist of nine-patch blocks in varied prints, with the upper section of the center column incorporating star-pattern blocks. The quilt is finished with a border of blue and pink floral printed fabric. The reverse side is pieced with a large central panel of large-scale floral chintz-style print featuring purple and blue flowers on a cream ground, flanked by vertical panels of solid cream and pale green cotton. The hand-quilting is executed with visible running stitches in a simple linear pattern.
