Description

88 x 96 A vintage hand-stitched utility quilt featuring a concentric bullseye or spider web patchwork design. The central medallion consists of a freeform red fabric appliqu? with a quilted circle center, surrounded by radiating spokes of dark plaid fabric. This motif is enclosed by numerous concentric rings composed of a variety of fabric scraps, including multi-colored plaids, stripes, suit-weight wool blends, and small-scale printed cottons. The quilt is hand-pieced and hand-quilted using large-scale white running stitches that follow the circular pattern of the top. The reverse is finished with a solid neutral tan or beige fabric. The edges are finished with a simple fold-over binding using a plaid scrap fabric. The construction reflects mid-20th-century American folk art and utility quilting traditions.
